godaddy email forwarding with a domain hosted on a cpanel server

Who is it for

You are moving away from godaddy web hosting to a new server but still want to keep godaddy’s email service. (maybe you have 30 users and do not want to migrate them, maybe your contract isn’t up yet.)

Why do you need to have godaddy email forwarding

If you do not change your MX record to forward your email from the new server to your existing email godaddy account, your email will stop working when the domain propagates to the new server.

Steps:

Get your Godaddy Email Server MX information

  1. Goto godaddy.com
  2. Log in to your Account Manager.
  3. Click the plus sign next to email
  4. Click launch next to your email account
  5. on the right hand side there is a section called task shortcuts, click on Server Settings
  6. Write down your mx records  (Priority, Destination)

Change your New MX Records to a Remote mail Exchanger (godaddy)

  1. login to your new servers cpanel
  2. Click MX Entry under mail
  3. Under email routing click remote Mail exchanger
  4. Under Mx Records : Actions-  Delete the current MX record
  5. Under Add New record- enter the priority and the destination and click add new record
